Wishing You Peace

Inspired by International Peace Day, Bridge Point Arts Days and the Holiday Season, the Bridge Point students and staff give to you this video gift. It is an image of Peace formed on our soccer field one brilliant morning in October.  The students move from symbol to action as they carry the message of peace to all they touch.  View it and share it.  Enjoy.

And to you and all you love, I join the entire Bridge Point staff in wishing you Peace and Happy Holidays.

May the Code be with You

Ah, the Coding FORCE is strong in these ones. Code, we must, to learn basic programming for the future!

Many students at BPE took the chance to defeat the Dark Side of learning this week to promote learning Computer Science in the elementary classroom with the HOUR OF CODE project. Students used the Hour of Code website to program with Minecraft, Star Wars and Frozen characters as well as many different apps like Tynker, Box Island, Hopscotch, Bee Bot, Cargo Bot, Scratch Jr., Run Marco, Kodable, and Lego Fix the Factory. Thanks to Ms. Wright, Ms. Matus, Ms. Shuey, Ms. Steimle and Ms. Powell for sharing pictures of their Coding Jedis. May the Coding Force be with you!

Making Verbs Come Alive

What's a verb? You can ask Ms. Rojas' second graders because not only do they know what a verb is, but they can show you too! Check out this awesome video that uses Green Screen technology to set creative scenes for action words to come alive. Way to go second graders!

Live from Easter Island

Today Ms. Ward's class received a special call from their traveling classmate on his stop in Easter Island. He FaceTimed from right outside the Moai statues (THE REAL version of our BPE paper mache statue for Arts Day, wow!). He helped Ms. Ward's class learn that Easter Island is one of the most remote islands in the word, more than 1,200 miles from any other land mass. They also learned that Easter Island is almost as equidistant south of the equator as Austin is north of the equator! He said his favorite part was being in he southern hemisphere where the constellations are very different. He told his class his next trip is a 10 day boat ride to Antarctica! Experience is an amazing teacher! Safe travels, friend!

Hey parents, students and teachers! Help us defeat the Dark Side by remembering that it's No Homework Night, district-wide. Here's a parody written and produced by the Westlake Film Production team to help you enjoy No Homework Night even more. May the Force be with You!

Zeal Appeal

Zeal is an excellent resource for standards-based practice of math and language arts skills. Students earn coins to spend in the Zeal shop to accessorize their avatars as they reinforce what they are learning. Zeal automatically grades exit tickets, quizzes, and assessments to help teachers analyze areas of growth for students.

Ms. Lindsey has been using Zeal in her 4th grade classroom for over a year now. From time to time, Zeal Skypes in with her classroom to get feedback from her students. This time, Mr. Marston from Zeal held a conference with Ms. Lindsey's class to hear specific feedback on what Zeal is doing well and what they can do better. Here is some of the feedback our students gave:
  • Please give us full body avatars to accessorize
  • Love the work space to write long division and long multiplication problems!
  • Need more higher math levels!
  • Add passwords so that others can't get into my account and spend all my points (Zeal's got a fix for that).
  • The store is too expensive! I can't afford anything! (Solution: DO MORE MATH, EARN MORE COINS!)
  • Makes me want to do more math!
  • Sometimes the avatar switches to the wrong student.
  • Please add a hint button.

Attention BPE students! It's time to update your iPad. Watch this student-produced video tutorial, get your Apple ID password ready and just LET IT LOAD!

The apple glows white on the iPad screen, not an app to be seen...let it load, let it load! Let the iPad do its thing!
