Ms. Steimle and Ms. DeLuca's class had great fun learning from their new Haitian friends in Neply again today. Over Skype, BP students and students in Neply shared their holiday traditions and special treats that were exclusive to the holiday season. We spoke of gingerbread houses, special dinners and presents. They spoke of their New Year's celebration of cooking pumpkin soup and traveling with small gifts to homes of their family and friends. It's amazing how patient, respectful and attentive each group of students are as they wait for each other's words to be translated into Kreyol and English. We ended our connection today by singing Jingle Bells in English and Kreyol. Happy Holidays!

In recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906), the Hour of Code challenge was born. Its mission is to raise awareness and excitement for computer programming. With a goal of inspiring 10 million kids to code during Computer Science Education Week (December 9-15), Bridge Point decided to get pumped about coding too! The entire 4th grade took the middle school Javascript challenge and 3rd graders in Ms. Cimino and Ms. Crowley's class took the beginner challenge. Many of the 3rd graders finished all 20 challenges! Kindergartners in Ms. Skonieczny, Ms. Hester, Ms. Ward and Ms. Plevich's classes also participated in the beginner challenge with some help from 3rd grade leaders. Students challenged themselves to learn from mistakes and to persevere. Our favorite quote of the day from a Kindergartner was, "I'm a master at this!" Maybe coding isn't just for the birds after all! Easily add labels and stamps to your photos with Labelbox. Check out the APP Integration Snapshot guide and enjoy! hAPPY Friday!! This month's Lifeskill is Caring and Compassion. Our first graders worked hard to create this video to the song, My Own Two Hands by Jack Johnson. This month a lot of Bridge Pointers are showing caring and compassion through a variety of activities. A team of Cub Scouts is holding a sock drive, the Yummy Gummies DI team is holding a coat drive and the student council is running the RexStrong fundraiser. If your teacher sees you showing care and compassion, you will earn a bear for our Lifeskills board. Happy December! |
