This week, Bridge Pointers tall and small worked to challenge their minds to demystify the world of computer programming. Every Bridge Pointer had the chance to join the largest learning campaign in the history of the world to promote Computer Science Education. A team of BPE teachers rotated through every classroom at BPE to teach a variety of computer programming lessons. On Tuesday, with the entire world trying out the Hour of Code, their servers crashed and we had to do some finagling. Luckily we had a team of great teachers on hand!
Ms. Gerentine and Ms. McLaughlin helped students bring coding to life through several "Unplugged" activities such as Happy Maps and Graph Paper Programming. Ms. Medina and Ms. Ricketson-Husain also traveled through classrooms introducing the Hour of Code with the Move It, Move It challenge, the Frozen challenge, Angry Birds basic programming challenge, and introductions to Scratch Jr. and Cargo Bot for the iPad. Fourth graders were invited to a second challenge in the computer lab to learn more about Javascript through Khan Academy. Immersed in challenges both online and offline, our Bridge Pointers rose to the challenge to learn more about computer programming! Way to go BPE!
